English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses
The ESL program is divided into 5 levels. Students should see a counselor to select
additional courses in other areas for which their language skills will be acceptable.
All ESL core classes (ESL 50 and 50G, ESL 1A/1B and ESL 1AG/1BG, and ESL 2A/2B and
ESL 2AG/2BG) are offered every semester. Class sizes provide for individualized attention in a professional learning environment.
Level 1
- Basic Acceleration Reading & Writing for ESL (ESL-50)
- Basic Grammar for ESL Accelerated Reading & Writing (ESL- 50G)
- In addition to these core classes, students may also choose to take the following
electives:
- American Culture I (ESL-010)
- ESL for the Workplace I (ESL-99A)
Level 2
- Accelerated Reading & Writing for ESL (ESL-1A)
- Grammar for ESL Accelerated Reading & Writing (EL-1AG)
- In addition to these core classes, students may also choose to take the following
electives:
- American Culture I (ESL-010)
- ESL for the Workplace II (ESL-99B)
- Students in level 2 are also encouraged to enroll in BOT100, COUNS 101, COUNS 110,
or any beginning language class.
Level 3
- Advanced Accelerated Reading & Writing for ESL (ESL-1B)
- Grammar for Advanced ESL Reading & Writing (ESL-1BG)
- In addition to these core classes, students may also choose to take the following
electives:
- American Culture II (ESL-020)
- ESL for the Workplace II (ESL-99B)
- Students in level 3 are also encouraged to enroll in any beginning BOT class, any
beginning COUNS class, any beginning language class, ART 100, ART 129, ASL 120, AUT0
99+100, CD 125, or HED 120.
Level 4
- Accelerated Composition for ESL (ESL-2A)
- Grammar for ESL Accelerated Composition (ESL-2AG)
- In addition to these core classes, students may also choose to take the following
electives:
- American Culture II (ESL-020)
- ESL for the Workplace II (ESL-99B)
- Students in level 4 (as in level 3) are also encouraged to enroll in any beginning
BOT class, any beginning COUNS class, any beginning language class, ART 100, ART 129,
ASL 120, AUT0 99+100, CD 125, or HED 120.
Level 5
- Advance Accelerated Composition for ESL (ESL-2B)
- Grammar for ESL Accelerated Composition (ESL- 2BG)
- In addition to these core classes, students may also choose to take any introductory
level course on campus.
